Programme Board appointed

We have the Programme Board of Toruń 2016! It came together with the New Year — on January 7 its composition was publicly announced at a press conference of the city office. Among the members of the advisory group are professors, cultural animators, a film director and a businessmen.

The establishment of the Programme Board has been eagerly awaited. Finally, this advisory body consists of representatives of all major areas of economic and cultural life. The Board was appointed through cooperation of regional and municipal authorities and the Toruń 2016 institute. The President of Toruń and the Marshal of the voivodeship designated six of its members. Also the rectors of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and the Casimir the Great University in Bydgoszcz proposed their candidates. The rest was invited by the Toruń 2016 institute.

There are three representatives of art community in the Board — Marek Głowacki, president of the Toruń district of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers (ZPAP) — Polish Applied Art, Rafał Góralski — co-founder of “Rusz” Galery and Łukasz Karwowski — director, screenwriter, film producer and a winner of the TOFIFEST festival.

The community of science is represented by four people: Dr. Alexander Jankowski — a sciencist of the Casimir the Great University in Bydgoszcz, Professor Włodzimierz Karaszewski — an economist, Nicolaus Copernicus University vice-rector for economic affairs and development, chairman of the Festival of Science and Arts Board, Professor Thomas Szlendak — Head of Cultural Research Institute at the NCU and Fr. Professor Peter Roszak of the University of Navarra, a theologian, essayist and translator of St. Thomas Aquinas works.

The business community members are two leaders of Toruń companies well prospering on the Polish and European Markets. Jarosław Józefowicz — CEO of TZMO and Zbigniew Klonowski — the leader and co-founder of TRIAS S.A.

The community of culture animators and organizers is represented by six people: Lucjan Broniewicz — a historian, the director of the Toruń’s planetarium, Paweł Łysak — the director of the Polish Theatre in Bydgoszcz, 2008 “Polityka” award winner, Marzena Matowska — the director of the Regional Center for Culture and Arts “Stara Ochronka” (Old Orphanage) in Bydgoszcz, Mirosław Męczekalski — the head of “Od Nowa” students’ club, organizer and initiator of numerous cultural events, Wojciech Zaguła — a producer and the co-founder of SOS MUSIC and Jan Świerkowski — a NCU student, an activist and the founder of the Kuba Rumiński Platon (Plato) Foundation.

The Board will soon meet for the first time. During its first session the Board will elect a Chairman, Deputy Chairmen and a Secretary. Board meetings will be held, as the statutes of Toruń 2016 say, not less than once per quarter. The Board will function as an advisory and consultative body on matters relating to the statutory activities of Toruń 2016.
