Toruń before the jury

Toruń’s representation appeared today before a committee of the European Capital of Culture experts. Presentation of Toruń was certainly the most spectacular of all that took place in Warsaw over the last two days.

Rather than being dressed up in suits and ties we showed the committee a truly cosmic theatre, referring in this way to the motto of our bid: “Toruń — the Universe of Culture.” Our presentation allowed the jurors to tangibly feel the cosmic nature of our city. The representatives of Toruń entered the room dressed as spaceship support crew. After a moment heads of two cosmonauts  hung over from the balcony. Each of the evaluators received a flashing stick, the same as those that were used in our presentation and referred to Skyway International Light Festival. The projection screen was covered with smoke, and a moment later a rocket fired into the sky to the sounds of rock music.

Our multimedia presentation was also an interesting artwork. It was prepared by Jacek Doroszenko, the co-author of acclaimed sound and visual project “Tonopolis”. At the end we used cosmic terminology, noting that the jubilee year in Torun will not end up on 31 December, 2016, as in astronomy it is known that time can extend and only we, the heirs of Copernicus, can bring this concept into practice.

Subsequently the representatives of Toruń responded to various questions asked by committee members. Their content indicated that they are well acquainted with our application and have tremendous insight into the nature and characteristics of our city.
