Write an essay on democracy – win 1000 Euro

How to make young people the opportunity to strengthen democracy and the private sector in their countries? If you know the answer to this question, sit before the keyboard and write an essay – take part in an international competition for the Center for International Private Enterpise.
In the competition are invited young people aged from 18 to 30 years. The work should have from 2 to 3 thousand characters - and relate to one of three categories:
- Democracy, which fulfills
- Entrepreneurship and Society
- Women and Participation
Anyone willing can submit one essay in each category. People, who write poorly in English, do not have to worry about the errors. The jury will not take them into account, if only the idea of the text will be clear. Authors of winning nine texts (three in each category) will receive one thousand euro prize. Their work will be published by CIPE. Deadline for entries is 18 June.

Life in poverty

Imagine your life in poverty – and show how to change it. What you think about the politics of the EU? Does it fight well against poverty in your city and region? Make a short video and answer these questions.
Young people aged from 15 to 30 years of age from all EU member states can take part in the competition for the 1-minute – or less – a video on poverty.
Participants are supposed to show the best way to deal with this problem – and comment on action taken in this area by the European Union. Author’s work – In English or with subtitles – will be evaluated by the jury of the organizers – the European People’s Party in the EU Committee of Regions – and invited guests. The titles of the three best essays will be announced before the end of October 2010, and their authors will receive cash prizes – 1000, 500 and 250 euros. The award ceremony will be held in Brussels.

Competition for young German speakers

Coming next is the fifth edition of the National Competition of knowledge about Germany and German language “Germany – no secrets”.
Its organizers – Greater Association for Rural Development and the Junge Union Sachsen-Anhalt – invite to attend secondary schools and pupils aged 16-18 years, German speakers, and interested in culture, history and socio-economic situation of our western neighbors.
School stage of the competition scheduled for Friday, June 4. Volunteers will have 90 minutes to answer 45 questions. The best will be invited to participate in the nationwide eliminations (3-5 September), in the written and oral form.
Applications of interested institutions will be accepted until 21 May. Nationwide winners will receive attractive prizes – the winner of the first three places will receive 2.5 thousand zlotych, respectively. 2 thousand. zlotych, and 1.5 thousand zlotych.
